New background (from a post on FB), as it is it was generated with AI, still like it though. (maybe AI isnāt all bad?) ![]()
EDIT: the AI used for these seem to come from GH copilot* (hope I write this right)
Ethical problems tend to make us doubt but, at the end, AI are just powerful tools. Like all tools, they can be used correctly or not, like they are intended to or not, for good or for evil. Some will master them, some will never get more than garbage.
No, thatās not how it works. Even if you use them āfor goodā, there is no way you will ever repay the debt of extra CO2 emissions, continuous DDoS of everything on the internet by scrapper bots, and so on. You are making some peopleās life miserable, and it isnāt worth it.
Especially for a wallpaper you could have generated with cheap GIMP filtersā¦
That font style is taken from the WII ![]()
Haiku on my Tablet Acer SW5-175 ok all Hardware work nice ONLY what not work is my Display Touchscreen driver xD but i use it on a Tablet PC WUHA Haiku is Future need Haiku on my Phone, have fun
Getting bored compiling something thatās hogging your entire 12 gigs of RAM and then some more so you want to play some YouTube video to look at?
No problem, and it all runs (mostly) smoothly ![]()
For more context: This is on the integrated video of a lowly 7th gen i3 (the variant tuned for power efficiency) and on VESA. It can also comfortably handle full-screen videos and 1080p but it can stutter for a second or so occasionally.
careful. now nintendo will sue haiku for using their fonts
Using? āUsingā would have meant the fonts had been bundled in the Haiku nightly/release images or distributed through the Haiku servers. An AI-generated image from a Facebook post reposted on the community forum doesnāt mean Haiku is using the fonts.
Not to spark yet another AI discussion, but extra CO2 emissions also happen if you donāt walk but use a gasoline powered car, do a Google search instead of look stuff up in an encyclopedia, use a computer instead of an abacus, etc. In a modern society, these things are all prevalent, emitting CO2 and causing warming. You as a person might not like AI, but lets not pretend to be environmentalists here. Computers, internet searches, light, cars, they all use some form of energy, contributing to CO2 emissions.
Does a video count as a screenshot? Hereās me jamming away⦠( well trying too at least
)
It would be very amusing to see nintendo sue AI companies
Just Haiku ![]()
i was joking? was it not obvious?
I wanted to reorder and resize the replicants to consume lesser desktop space.
I have a FHD resolution Desktop, but as I set all fontsā size to 17 - to avoid squinting - more replicants are became huge, and more of them had no sizing possibilities at all, but reducing the systen wide font settings.
I dropped
Calculator in Scientific Mode - later may be put back in Simple mode;
WordClock - thereās no any setting, but changing the font, but the setting the font size is not there :((
Unfortunately there is no floating, sizeable digital clock in the repos, so I have to be satisfied with Deskbarās clock (the only available digital clock is displaying time for digital robot minds, not for humans - I donāt wanna deciphering sticks to now : what time is it ?)
Of course I could track sourceforge.net for a clock widget/replicant program, but I really hate web interfaces to get the SW I desire - especially if thereās a package manager.
Now Processmonitor cannot be size as it was possible earlier, vertically at least. Simply does not shrink more than as you can see on my screenshot. I could resize horizontally, but then the details of the values and titles can be diminished totally.
Replicant of About System also determined, the window defines the replicant dimensons - it may change only if I reduce the one of the system-wide font size. I live with it.
Also dropped the Battery info replicant - it rarely have the correct coloring recently (it renders to gray and empty from usual coloring as replicant, however I enjoyed when with Beta4 it was fine finally. It works well on Deskbarās Shelf, so I set and left there.
Weatherā is good as it is - so its replicant could remain
Also changed the Haiku logo as I needed a more narrower, and I remembered once I stacked up one that would be fit ⦠it is ![]()
I really like this āCitrusā theme so it remained. Once I would change only one thing : I would be happy if the About system replicant would be white or some yellow instead of black.

Search the forum for DigiQClock (The Q makes the difference). TBH, it takes some times to figure out how to set it up correctly for your own needs but it worth the effort.
I havenāt been using Haiku for a while - at some point my HiQDock stopped working and I havenāt tried my DigiQClock recently - (guess I have to fire-up my VM).
@KitsunePrefecture - be sure to look at the whole thread, but Iām here for questions:
Another point⦠DigiQClock is NOT a replicant (e.g. use WindowTailor or hey scripting to get it stay-on-top, etc.
If the binary doesnāt work can try to load the clock without the binary using qml or qmlscene
e.g.
qml digiQclock.qml --fg orange --win-title āDigiQClockā --no-italics --font DigitalDismay.otf --show-border --blink-colon &
I will try to report here later if I got it working on a recently nightly on my VM
Ahoy @Starcrasher ,
Thank you, I followed it back then, but as it was not packaged and then I had a Haiku Beta instance only, so I skipped to get it - I avoided to setup anything via extract or compile, just as required additional steps to restore my rig, and risk to stability. I started to use Haiku daily, if I remember well, even still on 32bit, Iām not sure.
Thanks @hey68you !
Nowadays I use basically the Haiku 64 bit Nightly, so I have some git cloned (scripts) or extracted stuff in my home, so I play with some not packaged stuff.
However compiling is still out-of-scope :))
I know some people tried to play with AI at present for coding - some without dev skills ⦠I think itās called āvibe codingā in the public recently - I must update my dictionary about it :))
I do not want to pay for such things, and could not modify the code to tailor to my needs & fits, he-he ! ;-p
Today I will switch back to Haiku, and then I check it to get the files on my Haiku system.
Kind regards,
