Warzone 2100, a 3D open source RTS, has hit the repos!

At the moment this is only available for 64bit but a 32bit version is definitely possible with some more patching.

Known issues left:

  • Online multiplayer is currently broken, but LAN multiplayer works fine.
  • For a smooth experience play on Haiku dev revisions, the rendering is affected by a bug fixed with hrev59404, on versions prior to that (ie. Beta 5) the game’s rendering should occasionally freeze for multiple seconds.
  • As you can notice from my screenshot, rendering without hw acceleration is rough (I get 8-10 FPS usually), the game is still playable but it’s not very smooth. To have a better experience set Terrain Appearance to “classic” (I did) and Shadows to “off” (I didn’t) in the graphics options, they make a substantial difference.

In other news Wesnoth has been updated to 1.18.6, while GemRB and OpenRCT2 updates are coming soon.
Seeing that Beta 6 is moving closer I am starting to remove Beta 5 patches and workarounds to ease future maintenance.

If you are on Beta 5:

  • Wesnoth 1.18.6: The dedicated server binary (wesnothd) is broken, the main binary and all other functionality shouldn’t be affected.
  • GemRB 0.9.5: On clean installs GemRB will complain about not being able to create its own settings and cache folders. To avoid this, create the folders /boot/home/config/settings/gemrb and /boot/home/config/cache/gemrbmanually.

I updated TeXLive to the 2026 release. It should work similar to before. Sorry for temporarily breaking it during the update (the core package with the binaries was updated a day earlier before the data packages).

The luametatex engine for modern ConTeXt is now also available, but it still doesn’t work.

With the release of the new TeXLive package, thanks @jmairboeck there! I’ve updated TeXstudio to it’s latest version.

New in the depot, Gnumeric 1.12.60, after watching @michel ‘s YT channel he mentioned the GTK spreadsheet application was missing, those who know me know I can’t stand loose ends with not trying to see if it can be done. By this, it can!

Still missing yelp for the documentation, but looking into that, so far now help can’t be called from the menu.

EDIT: yelp on it’s way (probably later today or tomorrow)

EDIT2: Yelp now available in the depot, calling documentation from within Gnumeric will work now (seperate package and not set as a requirement to running Gnumeric).

EDIT3: @michel it can be done with some fiddling to change currency

Qt 6.10.3 landed in the depot, after spending a few years on updating local versions from 6.8.0 to 6.11.0 (last one still has issues) it was time to push the latest stable here, I hope you will enjoy this major leap for Qt6.

Qt Creator 19.0.0 is still in the pipeline, pictured here.

Qt Assistant 6.10.3 included in the qttools package (documentation is already from Qt6.11.0)

EDIT: Qt Creator update has been done, 19.0.0 is now in the depot.

KF6 has been updated to 6.25.0 (after Qt 6.10.3 was available), after that a few (mainly kirigami based) applications have been updated to 25.12.3 (or revbumped) to work OK again, amonst those are NeoChat, Tokodon and KomoDo (version 1.6.0).

KomoDo is a new todo manager from the KDE pool (not part of gear).

As mentioned in the recent request for translation thread, thanks to @nipos there’s a new release of UploadIt. It now sports a preference window to choose from a number of built-in file hosters, plus a means to add a custom service by entering its upload URL.
ETA: The file hoster has to support uploading via the curl command. UploadIt uses this commandline:

curl -F 'file=@'\"File-to-upload\" https://File-hoster-url

Also shown is the max. filesize and retention time for uploaded files. This of course may change when the owner of the site changes those limits. Feel free to open a ticket at the above linked site in that case (or if the service was discontinued).

The icon button opens the hoster’s website.

You find the UploadIt preferences in Deskbar’s “Preferences” menu, or by invoking the Tracker add-on without any selected files.

KDE gear26 is now also released for Haiku, a few are still in the pipeline to fix before pushing them.

New are Kirigami Gallery and Lokalize.

Kirigami Gallery is for this tied to qqc2_breeze_style.

Scribus 1.6.6. Covering support for many file formats from professional graphic design apps like: QuarkExpress, MS Visio, PageMaker, FreeHand, MS Publisher, Adobe InDesign, iWorks, Corel Draw and a few others.

Wanted to mention the recent passing of Paul Brainerd whom was a leader in desktop publishing and founder of Aldus Corporation. He suffered from Parkinson’s disease for many years but was a very talented individual and contributor to the field of computer desktop publishing.

@kim1963 the problem is the nebula package here @cocobean , searched for a recipe/package but can’t seem to find where this comes from, anyway, to install this you’d have to choose option 1.
