I have ASUS TUF Gaming F17 FX706LI_FX706LI. It has 16gb of ram and i5-10300H.
When i tried to boot r1/beta6 it hung at the splash screen. I tried to turn on safe mode and fail-safe graphics driver but it didnt help. Also, enabling on-screen debug output in the bootloader shows no logs at all
(P.S: R1/beta5 boots and works)

Same issue here, even on virtualized environments. Do you see any icon highlighted at boot splash?
No icons are highlighted at all
Are you booting from the USB install media or installed OS on a drive?
From the USB install media
Thanks for confirming. If you try to boot with that USB on another system (if you have one available) , does it work there?
I don’t have another physical PC to test. But the same image boots fine in VirtualBox with EFI enabled.
OK that’s fair. Forgive me for asking, simply trying to help.
Did you download the correct image?
Did you check its SHA-256 checksum with the published checksum?
You can try to disable Legacy/CSM if enabled, in the BIOS.
Temporarily disable Fast Boot and Secure Boot.
Make the USB device the first boot device.
You can also try to change these settings in the boot loader:
- disable SMP
- disable ACPI
- disable DMA
Thanks for the suggestions.
checksum: I already verified the SHA-256 checksum and it matches with the published checksum.
uefi settings: Secure Boot is disabled. Im not 100% sure about Fast boot, but the usb flash is detected and launched fine.
boot settings: I have already tried disabling SMP, ACPI and other safe mode options in the bootloader menu but none of them made a difference.
(also, i used the same USB drive for r1/beta5 and it worked)
OK I see that you have tried the most options. I did some searching as this problem made me curious. Please see below.
Beta 6 contains substantial low-level changes compared with Beta 5, including memory-management, filesystem, kernel, and driver changes. A failure before any on-screen debug text appears suggests the hang may occur very early—possibly in the kernel, bootloader, storage initialization, or firmware interaction—rather than in the desktop graphics driver.
I suspect the issue is specifically in the UEFI bootloader.
Yeah something is definitely not going to plan
And you have exhausted the bootloader options I take it?
I had an issue with one of my systems, it had an ASUS gfx card. When I removed the PCIe card and used onboard gfx it worked. Not that I think this is your issue, but thought I’d mention it.
Looks like my only option left is to file a bug report
Yeah… at least we are at the limit of my experience and Haiku skills now
You don’t get any debug syslog output either then? Did you enable it?
Yes, I enabled on-screen debug output, but no logs appear at all. It just hangs on the splash screen without any text, only logo and icons (which remain unlit)
Ok, well the issue is clearly in the early process steps then.
Disable IO-APIC - did you try that as well?
Looks like you have to file a bug report my friend..
Yes, tried disabling IO-APIC as well, no change. Thanks for your help. Guess I really have to file that bug report..
Ok I am officially done asking questions now
Seems you have tried what could possible been asked of you.
Report it and hopefully it will get resolved.
It is already reported, maybe… because it is too early in the boot process and may overlap with other bugs.
In my case, on real hardware, I can boot usb live and install just fine, but then I am unable to boot from disk. Tried from usb live boot manager but It cannot find disk boot image, just usb one. Looks like we have some bug at early EFI disk management.
On QEMU I am unable to even boot the live CD.
