LibreOffice is now available for Haiku

Ahoy,

Sorry, but Qt is not on 6.6 in the HaikuDepot , but qt 6.70 base packages available since

2024-04-14, last Sunday

some additional Qt 6.x packages became available on

2024-04-15, actual Monday

at least for Haiku 64bit

Me myself was patient about Libreoffice upgrade
as for
when the update arrives into HaikuDepot
absolutely depends on the porter - 3deyes -
As he decides when the port is successful and bug free , tested well
related to Haiku release
so safe to provide in the repo.

Until then the available one is also enough good to use for any work.

Do you know such improvement in the new release or issue in actual one that justify to
have the new version installed as soon as possible ?

Or is this just about an urging matter … as it is already out for other operating system(s) ?..

LibreOffice has been updated to version 24.3.2.1. You can test it.

Thank you very much . upgraded…works beautifully
One version higher than on Voidlinux

However, LO appears flashy, beautiful on Haiku
On Voidlinux, it appears somewhat dull, dreary

Maybe because as you said Haiku uses QT backend while linux uses GTK?

Does the spell checker work for anyone? English(USA) is selected, but the Automatic Spell Checking doesn’t flag incorrectly spelled words. Doing a manual check doesn’t show anything and the drop down menu for language is blank with no options to set it.

Am I missing something that should be installed? AbiWord does spell check correctly, and I don’t know if that means anything or not.

You need to download the dictionary from the LibreOffice extensions site and install it:

Nice! As there are already language packs for LibreOffice in HaikuDepot, would it make sense to add those dictionaries to those?

Good idea - I’ll try to do that

Thank you for this last post, it helped me to install/activate Hungarian spellchecking in LibreOffice.

From Linux I remembered I need hunspell to be installed and that establish Hungarian spell checking system-wide as apps would yuse spell checking would find it.

~> pkgman search hunspell -D
Repository Name Version Arch

enchant 2.5.0-1 x86_64
HaikuPorts enchant 2.5.0-1 x86_64
hunspell 1.7.2-1 x86_64
HaikuPorts hunspell 1.7.2-1 x86_64
HaikuPorts hunspell_devel 1.7.2-1 x86_64
HaikuPorts hunspell_source 1.7.2-1 source

Against that this latest available version and installed it was not enough to activate spell checking in Libreoffice.

However I found that …
a Hungarian dictionary is available and is set to use,…
I could not select - on Spellchecking panel - the appropriate
Language → Magyar
the pull down stuff was inactive and at Language was ‘None’ only.
I had not made screenshot about it then.

So I tried out to use that language extension you posted last.

As it is on Github, I tried to get the files with git - into my home dir.

As I had the files, and especially the hungarian one among them, moreover there were no useful infos how to add to LibreOffice in the README file, …
I tried out as you showed to add an extension - in earlier post - within LibreOffice.

01__Select_LibreOffice_extension

02_Select_LibreOffice_extension

03__Select_LibreOffice_extension

Then I checked spellchecking in Writer - writing a word intentionally WRONG - it marked as wrong as usually done in apps

I fixed the wrong letter in the word - the marking disappeared

It works now this way - I dunno why hunspell and libreoffice packages does not enough to be installed on Haiku to activate the Hungarian spellchecking in LibreOffice …

Maybe the hunspell is different for the newest version of Libreoffice.
However I found 1.72 on Github as well - as it is in the Haikuports repo.

Anyway -

Thank you, Gerasim, it helped to setup spellchecking.

I made this long post …
maybe give a help for others to install for their language too.

I did it. Everything’s working fine. The language packs contain dictionaries in addition to localization. I will push it to haikuports tomorrow.

works quite fine but I get consistent crashes when trying to hop into presentation mode. Where do I report Haiku specific bugs? It’s not happening on Linux.

Issues regarding ported software can be reported here: Issues · haikuports/haikuports · GitHub

The problem is enabling full screen mode. If you enable presentation mode in a window, the problem does not happen.

Ah okay thanks… is this a known issue (i.e. already in GitHub issue tracker)?
Because I’d really need fullscreen mode for a proper presentation, so this is only a workaround…

I fix this bug. You just need to wait for the builder to build the package. I think it will be tomorrow.

Fixed?

I expect this is a beginner question. I just downloaded the application, and it runs OK but can’t deal with documents, apparently lacking fonts. There’s just Noto; it persistently thinks I’ll want to use Thai Noto, which one would think might be a preference one could change, but the real problem is that I don’t particularly want to use any Noto. It can convert the document to a readable PDF, so the font info is in here somewhere. Is there a separate package download that provides the fonts for document work?
