Installed Haiku, finds no bootable drive

Hi. My Name is Pascal, I am from Switzerland and stumbled upon Haiku today. I found it a good mix to have a High-End Windows 11 PC, a Linus Mint low-end PC, and an old PC with Haiku.

The PC is a Pentium 4 3.067GHZ (First CPU with Hyperthreading!) with Radeon X1950 Pro 512MB GPU,1 GB RAM, and an old 200 GB HDD.

I burnt an ISO of Haiku to a DVD-R and booted the Pentium 4 with it, the installer loaded, and I formatted the HDD and did run the installer. However, upon rebooting, no bootable drive was found after I removed the DVD and I could not solve this issue with the bootloader or BIOS options.

What can I do to fix this issue? The HDD seems to be detected according to the log, but Haiku can’t boot from it…

Hi,

Have you created the partition map from scratch in the haiku installer? If you have not did you use Tools-> Write boot sector at the end of the installation?

Have you explicitly marked the partition you installed onto as active when creating it in DriveSetup?

Thanks, I don’t think I did all those things. I have to check when I get home.

I don’t know your BIOS but I had that problem and setting up an EFI partition fixed it

With a pentium 4 cpu I think it is very unlikely that the problem is efi related. In theory some newer boards do use such older cpu designs for cost saving but this seems unlikely to me (that the board would use EFI)

After tinkering several times with the drive tool, I could get Haiku to boot from HDD. Thanks.

My Radeon X1950 Pro is only running in VESA mode, is it because of it being an AGP card?

Also, are floppy drives not supported? I have a 3.5 inch one in the system.
