Manufacturer: Dell
Model: Optiplex 780 (USFF Desktop)
Rating: Excellent (Daily Driver!)
Hrev on which was tested: Nightlies - currently hrev56549
System Type: 64 bit
Running from: Direct Hardware
Startup the system from: HDD
Boot options needed?: None*
Processor/Cores: Intel Core 2 Duo
Memory: 4 GB
Graphic cards/count: Intel GMA Q45 on CPU
Vesa needed?: No
Graphic card status: Very Well - all resolutions and a range of frequencies over VGA supported, glitch-free and snappy
Sound cards: Intel HDA
Soundcard status: Works great, Front & Rear 3.5mm jacks both work
Networking cards: onboard
Network card status: Works fine with a few wrinkles* see comments
Wireless Networking cards: NIL
Wireless Network card status: N/A
USB types/cound: USB 2 & eSATA
USB cards status: - both USB and eSATA work fine
SD cards: NIL
SD cards status: N/A
Integrated Webcams: NIL
Did you have to blacklist hardware?: No
Additional notes:

  • For the last year or so, random nightlies will not boot; I just used the boot manager to boot past working HREVS until the next working one arrives (Eg 56554, 56555, 56560 do not work, while 56549 does)
  • Occasionally on boot the networking does not work - I tent to fix this with a reboot, although I can also disable and then re-enable the interface to get it to work, rebooting is less fiddling - this has only been happening on nightlies for the last 6 or 9 months approx
  • Pkgman, Haiku Depot and Software Updater have become flakey in the last 6-9 months. I tend to use the command line exclusively now to update and install software, as the update process frequently stalls, and requires many Ctrl-Cs and re-dos until the update/install gets all the packages it neeeds. NB - the stall is on initial comms per interation - once a download starts, it completes. I am not sure this is related to the network stall-on-boot issue, but I suspect it is.
  • Neither of the above issues happen on the current stable beta, so I am pretty sure it is a software-level issue (drivers??), not hardware
  • Otherwise very stable and performant on this geriatric hardware - love it (tho the networking woes could take a hike)

New people have definitely come to us through beta 4. I would ask you to enter your hardware data in the appropriate lists so that we can expand the hardware database.

Would be nice to not ask for stuff we know for beta4 that it isn’t supported like bluetooth or webcams.

Those lists should only be there once we can expect people to report positively, otherwise we are asking people to waste their time testing stuff we already know doesn’t work.

yes, I agree with you that hardware that is not supported by haiku at the moment could not be queried. But now it is the case that people learn exactly from such forum entries that it is not possible. That’s why it’s ok for me with BluTooth, there are webcams that are supported, even if they are very old, and if you’re testing your system with Haiku, you can also include this.

If I should ONLY enter the results for three of my PCs during the last two years, there would be a long list of more than duplicate entries = each tested with hrev xyz…
A Zotac ZBOX IQ01, which worked wonderfully with Haiku 32bit + 64bit for at least three years, I disconnected from the net at some point. It is now lying around in a corner somewhere.
The other three PCs (Laptop DELL XPS 15 L502X, Zotac ZBOX MAGNUS ER51060) liked Haiku from totally to not at all - always change).
The gaming laptop from MSI* in native resolution amazingly with a certain nightly hrev until the last icon: rocket - after that was the end.
With Haiku r1/beta4 (32bit, 64 bit) all three computers did not want at all. I left the older (several years very compatible) ZBOX in place.
In the meantime (over several Hrev) the Haiku USB stick was not even shown as boot medium, so I suspected the stick itself or the connection to the computer as responsible.
This was not so, however, because a certain nightly wanted then again!
How should this be handled

I make sure that the same computer/hardware components are not always in the list, but if it was running under an old version and suddenly it isn’t anymore, it will be entered (once) and if it wasn’t running then but now, it will it also entered to show progress/regression.

So that I can find it again: Haiku running on Protonet Maya - Off-Topic - Haiku Community (haiku-os.org)

Manufacturer: Hewlett-Packard
Rating: 9.5 / 10 (see minor audio and battery info issues below).
Startup the system from: USB

  • 2 Kabini HDMI/DP Audio (vendor/device ID: 0x1022/0x9840).

SD cards status: Not tested.
Integrated Webcams: “HP Webcam” (Suyin Corp.) installed, but not supported.
Did you have to blacklist hardware?: None
Additional notes::

  • Internal PS/2 Touchpad works nicely.
  • PowerStatus reports battery status and % of charge correctly, but mWh values seem to be 10x higher than it should (edit: values are OK. I’ve mixed up mAh with mWh), and Keeping PowerStatus’ “Extended battery info” window open pegs one of the cores to 100% on an acpi_task kernel thread.

Edit: even my amd_temp driver works! Noice!
