BeOS Matrix screensaver

Does anyone know where to find a copy of the old BeOS Matrix screensaver? I’ve been looking for it and miss it.

As with many old programs, PulkoMandy’s BeOSArchive is a goldmine. Search for “Matrix” there, and the first link returns a working Matrix saver.

Excellent! Thanks!

Are BeOS screensavers not working in Haiku? I tried the first one and several others with no luck. Installed in /boot/home/config/non-packaged/add-ons/screensavers.

Works here. You aren’t by chance running 64bit Haiku? BeOS compatibility is 32bit only.

That screensaver was badass. I used to run it back in the day on Be OS 5 Pro.

Yeah I forget about that every now and then.

I tried to download the source package to see if I could get it working on 64 bit. Not sure if the archive is broken or not. Anyone had any joy extracting the source code?

Is it a tar.gz or other archive file, have you used the expanded or Terminal?

Tar archive files often not expand over Expander, so i create my tarGUI in the past.

Still working fine (on bit)

Didn’t find the source yet, is there a link to it? (license not clarified, so probably not ending up at haikuports?)

On a completely un-related note, you can run Johnny Castaway on Haiku using DosBox.

If there’s a way to add a DosBox program as a screen saver, that’d be awesome.

If you still have examples around, please create a ticket so we can try to fix Expander :stuck_out_tongue:

There’s also http://www.be.wildman-productions.org/index.php?action=displaypage&pagename=appitem&appid=58
But that one also doesn’t supply the source

The BeOS Matrix Screensaver came from xscreensaver. It is based on the X11 license.

I found a GitHub repository here:
