Here’s what i would like to see

vertical global menu(nextstep) with icons (MS Office)

Pie context menus with labels

a tab bar to deal with icon clutter. if the bar is to go on the top of the screen, the tabs should be under the icons so that you can click on the icons faster by throwing the mouse to the top

Windows taskbar (one click to bring up an app with single window, right click to close, max and minimize

a multiple item clipboard like MS Office but make it part of the OS

a tree widget that let’s you see what windows are in each workspace. You should be able to give each workspace a name.
I don’t think graphics do a good job with tracking what’s in workspaces

minimize and send back icons on the title tab. titles should have icons like Windows. Right click on the tab should bring a context menu and one should have the ability to send or copy any window to any workspace

The title buttons should be more descriptive. x to close, up arrow to zoom, down to minimize, diagonal arrow to send back.

Sliding tabs have unused potential. Perhaps if you send back a window, it would automatically align itself to the other window and slide its tab.

easier color picker. For those who just want the basic colors and don’t want to deal with 5 zillion shades of red.

a way to clip part of a webpage and make it into a replicant

I’m rethinking that. The first problem is that ideally, we don’t want to have hierarchical context menus, especially if they are pie menus. It pretty much defeats the point of making them fast and not moving the mouse far from what you are doing.

So what I would propose is the App Menu. No more going to file menu to quit an app or window! here you’d minimize, zoom, send back, move and also send/copy to workspaces. Perhaps it could also let you tile or make a tab row of all the app’s windows

Pie context menus with labels

No thanks.

Seems like a good idea.

I disagree, the tab buttons look good and cannot be confused with the X key. Besides, it only takes 5 minutes to learn them.

Absolutely, I think R2 should copy the lovely QNX color picker, seen at the very bottom of this page: http://www.guidebookgallery.org/screenshots/qnx621

Of course it should be easy to switch to the standard BeOS picker.[/b]

ok pie menus can be asking for trouble…but I’m not going to throw the idea out so quickly. I did find a problem with pie menus that I don’t think was addressed. What happens when you are at the top or bottom of the screen?

Tab buttons
The x isn’t so critical. However I don’t think we should hide minimize or send back

Color picker: that is the best color picker I’ve seen. I’m always looking at other OS’s for ideas and didn’t think QNX had something to offer.

vertical global menus…ok that’s not going to work. Easy to get to the menu, much harder to get back. Sorry mac

icons in menus like office 2003…yeah why not? Definitely not critical though

I think the best way to save space will ultimately be in rows of windows with aligned title tabs
