Wiki for Haiku

Ok all set! Thanks for reminding me…

I know some of you are not fond of discord, but updates to the wiki appear in my server here: BeOS & Haiku Fans a little easier then the basic “recent changes” segment of the wiki itself…

Oh no, not that proprietary piece of spyware crap again…
Did I mention Discord — Spyware Watchdog recently?
Would be nice to have this on a open-source and privacy-respecting place like XMPP, IRC or Matrix instead.

I have a irc and xmpp server, but don’t see as much use on them. And both of those formats don’t supply saved content.

Maybe you should advertise your IRC and XMPP groupchats more then.
If I had known they exist,I would surely have joined them
As for saved content, well,XMPP does if your client supports the needed XEPs,but I have to agree that it’s not a Discord-like experience.
If you’re open to alternatives that are exactly that - a webapp that looks like Discord and provides similar features, but isn’t owned by a evil megacorporation, let me suggest some other alternatives:

  • https://revolt.chat is an open-source project with the goal of creating a Discord clone. You can use their official server for free or start your own server using the source-code and be independent.
  • https://www.rocket.chat is another open-source project that offers features similar to Discord, but has been around longer than Revolt and may be more stable. They don’t offer a free hosted solution, but you can run your own server with the code.
  • https://quebic.com is a alternative proprietary platform that seems more trustworthy compared to Discord and is planning to add end-to-end encryption in the future.Due to it being closed-source,you can’t run your own server and can’t verify that they really don’t sell your data, but I’d trust that one a million times more than Discord, which is known to scan your messages,or track what you do with your computer, and a lot other stuff.

Of course, there are many other alternatives, many of them great open-source projects made by unpaid community members who just love writing code, rather than building a million dollar company out of user data.
I just wanted to show that very similar sites exist that will have like zero frustation when moving over, since everyone already knows how it works.

The IRC is at https://irc.beos.retro-os.live, and the xmpp server is part of the https://haikumail.online service. If you want to help promote them it would be great

I’m currently connected to your IRC server, but it doesn’t show any channels.
The website also doesn’t show any information about what channels exist.
What am I doing wrong?

I dont have any created, but you can register your nicks and channels via the anope conf at http://irc.beos.retro-os.live:8080/

It seems that I’m the only one that joined the new Discord server. I’m fine with something else being used.

is there a Matrix bridge for the IRC? Would probably make more people interested in joining.

It’s mentioned in the topic from #haiku on IRC: *Matrix: #haiku:matrix.org | XMPP: #haiku%irc.oftc.net@irc.jabberfr.org*
