What's new on Haiku Insider

I have decided to propose a series about useful Terminal commands (by category).

An article has already been released in Feb : “files” commands. And this week, it will be about “text processing”.
If I go until what I have in mind, 12 other categories will follow

Excellent idea! Two humble suggestions:

  • Some commands are internal to bash and might not be available with the same syntax in other shells. Might be worth pointing that out.
  • The Haiku-specific commands like filepanel and alert deserve some extra love. That’s what makes us different from CLI Linux, after all.

Tomorrow the series continue with “Scripting : useful files operations commands”.

There will be a few Haiku specific commands showcased in addition to the standard ones.

Remaining articles before finalizing the series : 8

I noticed that you’re putting spaces before colons, exclamation and question marks, which shouldn’t be present in english.

Could we change the thread title? The launch was a long time ago and @DigitalBox’s site is a known and valued part of the Haiku ecosystem. Perhaps something like “What’s new on Haiku Insider”?

Good catch, I discovered it’s a French usage, that’s why so far I have used that convention wrongly for English.

I noticed it because I used to do the same error

Coming soon : a simple PHP solution under Haiku to transfer files from any machine to your system

@DigitalBox

It’s interesting to know when there’s something new on your site, but you should add a link there, or at least change or add a link to the current page in the first post.

Even if Haiku is not multi-users today, I plan to create an article about the below commands (which are working ok under Haiku):
useradd, groupadd, passwd, chown, chgrp, chmod, groups, id, whoami

For instance, the nginx package is using today the user “nginx” when installed, so it means there are some use cases today about users/groups (even if limited)

Indeed, for example to connect over ssh these are usefull.

The last 4 articles about scripting are completed and will be published in the coming weeks.

Starting mi-June, the articles frequency should be more on a weekly basis, as I would like to dedicate more time on enhancing my attributes editor and other things.

I take the opportunity to welcome any new contributor who would like to share their knowledge on the system or on other topics around Haiku (applications, gaming, dev topics, drivers, news, etc).

Bludit CMS can handle several “author” accounts, so if you’re interested, and would like to have an account for this kind of activity, you can let me know with on PM on this forum.
