When I insert a USB-A thumb drive I get the usual choice between mounting it Read-only or Read/write (with dire warnings).
But when I insert a USB-C thumb drive it mounts it Read-only without further comment.
Is this the expected behaviour?

Unless the file system is half supported, it should give you the choice.
Perhaps in some cases, it is possible to read the content of an USB-C thumb on a USB-A port? This would explain why you can’t write and so why the system doesn’t ask.
Ounds like your drive is formatted as exfat, which is common for new usb-c ones, and not writable yet in haiku.
