i am unable to send emails. i use the mail application and i can receive emails but i cannot send them. when i try it says general system error. i tried to use the webmail but it said that i do not have permission or priveleges to send netmail. i use haikumail.online which recently upgraded their servers but these seems more like a system issue. can help me?
Sending emails is restricted by default on Haikumail to prevent spam.
You can ask @MarisaG to enable sending mails for your account.
The general system error in the native mail application could be unrelated to that, however.
Better wait for the email sending to be enabled (should work from the webmail then) and then see if the general system error in the app persists.
Didn’t even know about haikumail.online service.
Would be nice to have an email account in Haiku related domain.
It’s a friendly service provided by Marisa but not related to the Haiku project.
I looked into this out of curiosity, so in case this is interesting to anyone else, “General system error” means errno == -1. My guess is that at this point of failure, the programmer had no means to produce a useful message, which is kind of a shame. You can’t really use SMTP to send mail, without processing the codes that come back from the server, so somewhere in there, much more was known about the problem.
that may confirm that i need to ask @MarisaG to enable email for me. thank you
While I agree that the code should be doing greater job here, please open a ticket, because, maybe, it’s just because nobody ever reported this kind of error in case their SMTP provider blocks them, and the devs who worked on mail_daemon SMPT add-on just didn’t though about it…
Someone who uses this application should probably be the one to open a ticket.
