I am thinking of getting a used Thinkpad to run Haiku on. I checked Haikuware for drivers, and it seems that Haiku should run well on the T42 - the only problem might be with the wireless card. Does anyone have experience with Haiku and Thinkpads?
Several of the core developers use Thinkpad T60’s IIRC.
TBH, every machine is different - just because one Thinkpad runs great doesn’t mean another model will as well (manufacturers tend to juggle their chipset decisions between models).
Even in some cases, the exact same model computer will come with different components entirely - Dell does this a lot, making for a frustrating situation for IT departments
If you know the video, sound, and network chipsets beforehand, that can be pretty useful.
Wireless is currently a no-go.
I’m not set on a T42, hence why I asked in general about any Thinkpad models that may work well with Haiku.

Any idea on where wireless stands in the current roadmap?

It is not an alpha-blocking requirement. It is already documented here:
http://dev.haiku-os.org/ticket/1050
and you can watch progress here:

and the bounty is here:
The T42 had a range of different wireless mini-PCI cards depending on the specification you paid for and the age of the model. In some cases the card uses a chipset for which a BeOS driver exists, which could potentially function with Haiku, or be modified to do so.
