VLC broken on hrev59445 64 bit · Issue #13794 · haikuports/haikuports · GitHub help!

I installed VLC on my Haiku install running hrev59445 x86_64 just now and it does launch the first time and can play videos fine but indeed crashes when trying to launch it again. Renaming or deleting the ml.xspf playlist file allows it to launch again but then the ‘Network Access’ dialog appears and it recreates the file, causing it to not launch again.

Going back to hrev59441 VLC does launch without any issues so a change between the two versions has caused issues with VLC.

So far I haven’t seen any weird behaviour on beta5, some more info (Terminal output or the like) might be usefull?

I haven’t updated yet this morning, so I’m on 59441; VLC works.

I’ll check again after I update.

No update on VLC for 2 months, doubt there would be one, if your system is on par.

Just updated to 59455; VLC immediately crashes.

I checked the updates when they applied; VLC definitely did not get an update.

So whatever’s crashing it is a change in something it depends on.

Running it from Terminal doesn’t give any output that’s useful to me:

~> vlc Desktop/Wallace\ &\ Gromit\ -\ The\ Curse\ Of\ The\ Were-Rabbit.m4v
VLC media player 3.0.23 Vetinari (revision 3.0.23-2-0-g79128878dd)
zsh: SIGKILLTHR vlc Desktop/Wallace\ &\ Gromit\ -\ The\ Curse\ Of\ The\ Were-Rabbit.m4v

That ‘SIGKILLTHR’ may tell you something?

EDIT: going into the debugger needs a bunch of debug symbol packages installed, but once that’s done I’ll see if there’s anything useful.

I see the problem; it’s a regression from a change I made yesterday. Will investigate.

Should be fixed in hrev59446.

Updated to 59451; VLC is normal again.

Thanks.

EDIT: I just noticed that yesterday I said I had updated to “59455”; that can’t be right. I must have misread/mistyped “59445”. Oops.

Ahoy !

Try to run

checkfs -c /boot

and

bfsinfo /boot

to exclude bfs corruption.

If the filesystem is healthy, run some RAM tests.

Unfortunately I have faulty RAM in Precision M6700 at about 17,8 or 18,7 Gig and 29,5 Gig actually - related to diag tool. Fortunately the all 4 USB thumbdrive installs are healthy.

I got it working by doing a clean install. Maybe a corrupted qt file or something.
