I’m using Haiku as the only OS on one of my systems, but it has an sis 630 chipset. I searched for a video driver for the sis 305 IGP but I had any luck, it works in vesa mode but, the GUI is very slow and for example playing a video is dificult withought 2d aceleration, it misses various frames and has continuous jumps.
Does anybody knows about a driver for this GPU??
Thats a sub ghz cpu, its going to struggle playing anything remotely hidef. AFAIK haiku has zero 2d accel and that chipset offers no codec decoding I know of in hardware. Now if the video your watching is older Tv resolutions you’ll be fine but most of that hardware will struggle with anything higher then that.
On the workshop I usualy see computers worse than this. This laptop has a P3 tualatin and 512mb of ram, more than enought for WinXP and under that systen whiht vlc,can play normal videos and the gui is fast. I have oder systens faster and newer than that but not every body want to, or need to buy a new computer if the one that they have works for then. And an slow gui is a big drawback. Haiku showld improbe hardware support if it wants to be a real alternative because I tried to boot the latest haiku nightly in a newer Pentium mobile and it crashed just after booted the desktop, and wats worse the touchpad did’nt work fron the start I had to use an usb mouse.
