Shutdown power off problem

The location is ‘/var/log/syslog’, so tail -f /var/log/syslog

Honestly, I’d go with @humdinger advice and just start over. It doesn’t sound like you’ve gotten very far with it, yet, so it’s the fastest and easiest solution. I would stay away from installing a Qt browser, and go with Web (also known as Epiphany) as it works much better than Falkon, anyway. And don’t use Transmission, because, well, we saw what happened with that, already.

Actually, both paths lead to the syslog. It’s the “.” at the end of the line that was the issue…

The one place punctuation has no place being!
My way is less typing, though

There’s also the TAB key for autocomplete

Before reinstalling HAIKU, I tried it on the DVD, but it did not shutdown either,

I’ll give HAIKU a try when the next version arrives.
No luck with Haiku R1/beta4, at least on the old laptop, i have available…

i will keep the HAIKU app on my cellphone to learn the OS news

OK. But without bugreport with all available information, it’ll be pure luck if it’s fixed with a later release.

My bad!
I thought the bug report was the tail -f /var/log/syslog
I posted above…

Nah, that “tail -f” only prints out live what gets added to the syslog. In that short snippet above, I see nothing wrong or shutdown relted. I’m no expert though.

Well, I didn’t give up, after all.
I installed HAIKU from a live USB stick,
on an old HP laptop.
Wish me luck.
I updated the system successfully,
and I’m writing to you using Web.
No shutdown or reboot problems.
