Hello fellows,
maybe you know the problem, you have like 8 usb sticks on your desk
and you want to install haiku on the device of your choice
im not a buisiness person and i dont know much about Be Inc
but please can someone sell a custom usb stick that screams Haiku when you see it
i can flash it myself but it would just be nice to have a dedicated haiku stick that i can differentiate from the others
maybe someone can make a kickstarter or something?
A web search for etched, engraved or personalized USB throws lots of results and designs. You’ll have to discard some that only sell in quantities, but there’s still a lot to choose from.
thanks guys
i will definitively get a 3d printer some day although i personally don’t think 3d printed stuff is something i could call pretty
i was a bit afraid this thread could backfire especially since its my first post here
i just thought it would be a good idea for haiku to get some funds, maybe this should have been posted to marketing
but if Be Inc does just want to focus on the os and not manufacture hardware, i fully respect that
i just think it would be really cool if i could buy a official stick from the people who work on haiku
afterall we are still in beta, maybe this would be a cool idea for 1.0
and if its just for your greatest supporters, i belive this is a thing that should exist
lol not that i have lots of money or ever donated anything

If you have a 3D printer, you could CAD something up in FreeCAD to make an enclosure that invokes the theme/UI/UX of Haiku and maybe sell it.
who knows maybe i will do something like that in the future
i just looked it up, haiku logo uses mit license
but i would prefer engraved metal
You can easily order your own customized Haiku USB stick on sites like this: Our Range of High Quality Promotional USB Sticks | USB2U
While I like the idea that Haiku offers something like that for R1,and maybe price them a bit higher with the profit going into development, like we have it for the shirts and coffee mugs already,I don’t think it makes sense yet for a Beta release.
Remember that Haiku Inc. has to first buy the sticks, which costs them money, and have no guarantee that the sticks will ever be bought in a large enough number.
For me, Haiku website makes clear that Haiku is an open source project. It seems that the information you got was not totally accurate. May I ask how you discovered Haiku?
But Haiku is also a Trademark that has restrictions and requirements. Does this fall within the “okay” area? probably? Allowed Trademark Usage - Haiku, Inc.
But honestly the usage requirements are confusing enough that I’d understand that as a user I would not try to distribute sticks and potentially get into hot water.
You misunderstood me. My bad, I wasn’t clear enough. I was surprised that OP was thinking that Be Inc. was still operational and was wondering what can have make him think that.
Just ask Haiku inc if they are ok with it to clarify wqat you are doing. They will probably request that you ship it with the official image or be very clear that you have customized it (you know, in case someone add bugs, ships an older âersion, or introduces malware)
By the way, if you want to buy a copy of Haiku, I still have Beta 1 DVDs from 2018 in stock, I’m happy to ship you a handful of these. Probably useless as an install medium, but I will be happy to free some space in my cupboards (I made a too big batch of DVDs, because ordering 1000 was basically the same price as ordering 500)
