Sorry if this is in the wrong place. I didn’t see any hardware forums.
I was wondering if anyone out there has gotten Be to run on a Toshiba Libretto 50CT? I just got one and was trying to get it to boot but it freezes at the seventh icon, or “sysinit2: 23” for the hardcore hackers. I’m using a fresh Be 5 pro install.
yeah, scanty said that it was releasing a tmp file system. Yes I’ve tried safemode. I’ve disabled just about everything in the bios, though there isn’t much. I found a japanese site that walks through loading it, I passed it through babelfish and the only thing I saw that they did different then me was to use a boot floppy. I don’t see how this could affect it. I’m guessing they used a later model or something. I will try max. Do you think it would help if I removed a lot of unnecessary drives?

s/drives/drivers I guess, and no, not really, as full safe mode disables almost all of them anyway
My Vaio was a bitch to get BeOS onto, but its humming anyway perfectly now, even the wireless. First few boots, whilst I removed crap that was causing issues (APM drivers, etc) needed two safe mode options set by hand each time- VGA and No BIOS Calls. Now the first is uneeded and the second is done by the kernel driver settings.
Ok, so I’ve tried a few different thing and I’ve got nothing. It still stops at the same point. Here’s what I’ve done (note: I’ve done these with R5pro, R5PE, and MAx3)
Normal nothing changed.
Safemode "enabled"
Each option in boot menu individually
Only “bios calls” and "safe mode"
deleted most of the files in /boot/beos/system/… (wasn’t sure what was what so this probably hurt more then helped.

I’m sure this is way more then anyone ever wanted to know, but I feel getting everything on the table will help finding a solution if there is one.
My thoughts: I haven’t found anything that looks like a Chips&Tech video driver on the system or bebits. Could it be in another one or named funny?
The ISA bus at the top seems suspect, but I’m not a hardware man so I don’t know. It does clam PnP compatability, but on ISA? I though Be needed at least some pci to work.
What are some specific files I should target for deletion? And which distro would be best to start from?
Sorry about another long post, I just like to get it all out so the bases are covered
sysinit23 is the last phase before BeOS goes GUI - it may be the VLB graphics that are tripping you up. However, JLG used a Libretto, so BeOS can run on them. Just one that old and slow, and wonky (Pentium and VLB never went well together due to timing issues) may not go well
So I will be asking for that RAM for xmas. Other then crossing my fingers what can I try. Which drivers, files, and add-ons should I be removing to get an idea as to weather this will work or not?
I’m gonna go in and blind delete stuff and see what happens. Some clues to what would be good targets would be nice.
