R5 virtualisation BeBochs/Qemu?

Hello,

well … the day that never comes … at the end finally arrived… )-:
A couple of days ago my last BeOS R5 hardware-compatible machine died.

So, now my question:
Any user(s) out there with experiences about virtualisation of BeOS R5?
I know that it’s been possible to install R5 onto a virtual machine within an older version of virtualbox (and i tried that back in the days) but it has been unusable, whyfor i’ve been staying on real hardware. Until 2014/04/14 at least…

Now i’m searching a way to get R5 successfully running within a vm on HAIKU-OS and it would be interesting if anyone here has been successful with installation and operating it.

Don’t get me wrong, i’m a really happy HAIKU user, but a few applications i used (and purchased) over the years seem to be -until HAIKU-OS reaches R1, or beta at least- better running on R5.

  • Anyone running R5.03 on HAIKU within BeBochs or QEMU?
  • Anyone knows sth about HPKG files for those 2 Applications (for HAIKU-post-PM-nightlies)?

I’ve had some luck running BeOS R5.0.3 Pro in VirtualBox. Besides related forum posts here http://www.haiku-os.org/community/forum/vms_haiku and http://www.haiku-os.org/tags/virtualbox you can find my BeOS specific writeup at http://web.ncf.ca/au829/WeekendReports/20130309.html

I haven't heard of anyone yet using Haiku as a host for virtual machines, other than QEMU running in simulate-the-processor-slowly mode.

Have you reported bugs for the non working BeOS apps to dev.haiku-os.org? Maybe we can fix that?
