Does Haiku have a mac-esque quick look/preview feature?

Apple are looking to allow quick edit also: https://www.macrumors.com/how-to/use-quick-actions-in-macos-mojave/

It strikes me that replicants and an enclosing preview app pane would be a good way to implement this. Has anyone tried before?

No, but with Tracker add-ons your possibilities are endless (you can even extend Tracker like it was wxtended for the Tracker git addon).
