How does one set-up qemu networking on a haiku host? Has anybody had success accessing the network from a qemu guest os on a Haiku host?
Just making sure: it doesn’t work the usual way, by starting Qemu with -nic user or -net user -net nic? Maybe the options differ between Linux and Haiku.
(No, I’m not sure why there are two different ways, or what the difference is.)
There is no difference in options in QEMU between the two. In my case I add -netdev user,id=n1 -device virtio-net,netdev=n1 to the QEMU command line to get user networking using Slirp to function on Haiku guests from my Haiku host using the virtio-net network adapter.
Thanks, -net user worked.
Installing Linus Mint guest in qemu on Haiku!
Posting from Linux mint running as a guest in Haiku!
Could you post the whole working Qemu command line? I’m interested.
/bin/qemu-system-x86_64 -monitor stdio -machine accel=nvmm -m 4000 -cdrom /boot/home/Downloads/linuxmint-22.3-cinnamon-64bit.iso -hda /boot/home/Downloads/linuxmint.img -boot order=acd,menu=on -nic user,ipv6=off -rtc base=localtime -name “LinuxMint”
Some of this may not be required, but I copied it from a some website and modified it to reflect my file locations and it works.
After modifying the file names, I am posting from haiku 32 bit guest running in qemu on haiku 64 bit system.
Thanks. I’m using this to launch the Linux installed on a partition:
qemu-system-x86_64 -m 4096M -machine accel=nvmm -nodefaults -smp 4,cores=4 -vga std -net nic -net user -device virtio-scsi-pci,id=scsi -drive file=/dev/disk/scsi/0/5/0/raw,format=raw,media=disk
The /dev/disk/scsi/0/5/0/raw I got by looking at the partition layout in DriveSetup. While this is the partition with my linux install, I always end up in the my regular BootManager menu. Is there a way to directly boot into Linux?
Also, it takes quite long for Linux to get booted up. The SSD seems to be hit a lot. Are any of my parameters wrong or is there a way to speed things up?
