Problems with CD-Rom on Toshiba Laptop during Installation

Hello to the Forum!

I used BeOS for a while on my old computer. Now i have a new (used) Notebook (Toshiba Tecra 750DVD --> http://www.csd.toshiba.com/cgi-bin/tais/su/su_sc_dtlView.jsp?soid=317503&moid=104372&BV_SessionID=@@@@0305802069.1112187370@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccccaddefejieedcgfkceghdgngdgnn.0&ct=SB)
233 MHZ, 160mb Ram, DVD-Rom, 5 GB HD.
My HD ist partitioned in two primary part., first with win (fat32), second primary with BFS (and nothing on it), and a logical with linux (ext3) and a small swap disk.

Now my big problem is, that i could not really install BeOS, because during the installation boot, there comes the message (after i chosed boot from cd-rom) “place BeOS volume in Cd-Rom”. Someone told me that it could be a problem with bios, but i could not fix it there. BeOS don`t find my Cd(DVD)-Rom! I found (i think so) that out also when i installed it from Windows98 and BeOs could not find the DVD-Rom also from there.

If anybody can help me out in any way i would be happy to here from you, also i can give some detailed information if its useful.

(i tried 3 different beos versions , at least all with the same issue…)

regards, TMBRETT

I can’t help you, but I can tell you that I had pretty much the same problem with a Toshiba Tecra 510CDT where BeOS refused to acknowledge the CDROM after it began to boot from it… which was very strange.

I ended up trying all sorts of things, and eventually realized I would have to install it on the laptop HD by removing the drive and connecting it to my desktop using an adapter… and I gave up.
