How is Haiku poised for the future? What I’m concerned about is how well can the core Dev team keep up with new hardware support? Are there plans for handling this situation? What are they? What type of hardware has priority?
Hi xecronix!
I guess, see last paragraph of that comment.
Network and wifi drivers should be easier to keep uptodate, because of the FreeBSD compatibility. For graphics there’s still VESA as fallback and sound has OSS. As last resort there’s still virtualization via Virtualbox, which together with this year’s GSOC improvements and faster hardware in the future may become acceptable for some people.
Other than that, there isn’t much we can do, I guess, besides “somehow” getting more developers on board with the knowledge and need to get their personal hardware supported and encourage them by providing hardware or contracts through Haiku Inc. or Haikuware’s bounties.
I’m not really a coding Haiku developer, so this is just my opinion at the moment. More input welcome.

Humdinger
Better support for VirtualBox will be great – looking forward to any enhancements which Mike will be able to bring the platform as part of GSOC.
