This message has just appeared under what seems to be an innocuous new post that at the moment has had no replies.
Can anybody explain its sudden appearance?

It’s the default setting for the new Proprietary, AI and Other category.
I’m not fond of it either, but I’m willing to accept it as a necessary compromise. For now.
Thank you for the explanation.
This is a highly contentious topic, so perhaps we need to accept some inconvenience in the interests of peace.
Here in the UK, the vote to leave the European Union created a similar divide, and the wounds are yet to heal, after ten years. All the British can do is agree to disagree and get on with life, and I think it is the same with AI.
The hardest thing to change is a mind that’s made up.
The 10 Minute snooze in the category is a little ambitious to me . It seems to only effect edits to the original posts. I think it was intended to keep disrespectful comments from habitually re-editing and changing their original comment. If not, maybe it was to keep the author of the post for habitually updating their original post. Either way, that’s all it does from my experience. It does not keep the author from posting a new thread under the existing topic over and over again.
The goal is to avoid hundred of messages repeating the same thing over and over again.
Honestly, maybe we should enable this by default everywhere. Whenever you post on a topic, you have to wait 10 minutes before you can post again another reply. So you should take some time to consider what you’re writing, and maybe read everyone else’s replies and consider if you really have something useful to add.
It sure makes moderator’s job much easier to not have to read thousands of messages each day.
Not sure if it’s working the way you all have intended. In my experience, as I mentioned already, it only keeps me from reediting my original post. Which is good in way as I have to take time to proof read all my typos
and be more thoughtful about “hey this app is ready to publish” mentality. But as far as reposting a new thread, I don’t believe that part actually works. I may have to test it again.
New threads are allowed as much as you want. But replying to the same thread is not. This way people can take some time to cool down instead of spending a day shouting at ach other ![]()
People should think first before Posting!
People should do all sorts of things.
But people are human, and fallible.
I’d support that. Have it everywhere, or have it nowhere.
This has definitely helped a lot. I’m glad y’all came up with this idea.
