Sorry to rehash the whole java thing, but has anybody considered a port of Open JDK to Haiku?
Let me first say, I am impressed, and as a newbie, I really like where Haiku is going, I believe it has a fighting chance. Honestly, everybody keeps battling with OS’s yet (I feel) everybody forgot those who are not technical. My wife for example, just want’s her computer to work, use the net, and could care less about the ‘awesome’ power of UNIX.
Problem is, personally (IMHO) I don’t feel any platform is truly up to par unless it supports the wider accepted web technologies, and that means joining the .NET camp, the Adobe camp, and the Java one, at least for the moment. I realize somebody out there will jump on that statement and tout some rising new technology like ruby/rails and say I am short sited for making such a comment, however for the moment, I personally am firmly in the java camp. If you feel you must flame me for my choice, go ahead however, this post was intended to be constructive, not be yet another rift.
Sun supports the Open JDK project, and considering the official release of the JDK will be using a branch, I wouldn’t be surprised if it offered the most comprehensive one available (not that I am sure of that statement).
For anybody who asks the question, ‘why don’t you do it’ the answer is sure, I would be happy to but, only in the event nobody else has already started. In which case, I am more than willing to contribute.
Anybody already out there? if not, anybody willing to help if I start?
