Old but interesting review of BeOS

Here’s a link to an old but interesting review of BeOS R3. It’s especially interesting for people new to Haiku/BeOS, because it give a nice description of what people can and will do with Haiku.

There are more article links at the bottom, including a description of coding for BeOS:

Thank you very much for the link, it went on Facebook immediately for nostalgia’s sake

I’m sad now.
What truly makes me sad is that 12 years ago this OS was so completely amazing. I thoroughly enjoyed using it, it was a tremendous leap forward from Windows (either 9x or NT), and MacOS.

Today, however, OS X is an absolutely amazing OS. I wouldn’t say it’s perfect but it is indeed amazing… Windows is of course still Windows.
Haiku has a LOT to contend with and the OS isn’t up to par with where BeOS was 10 years ago.

I really can’t wait to see the Haiku foundation (R1) fully complete so they can truly start working on the killer stuff.

yes, beos was and IS beautiful. Clear, crisp UI, small but sharp and very readable fonts, fast, responsive under heavy loads, no skinning, blurring, bit-mapping, rounded-corners or other cheap trickery. just beautiful-perfect minimalim. supreme OS. it’s just amazing and depressing how wrong things can turn out…
