New Logo/Boot logo

I really like haiku, but I think they should have a real logo.
When you think of mac, you think of an apple, when you think of windows, you think of a flag thing, and when you think of linux, you think of a penguin. When you think of haiku? Here was one idea I like.

I always think of those beautiful pastel leaves when I think of Haiku. And they are used for example with the HAIKU text and at other places. Your concept is interesting though.

When I think of Haiku, I think of those beautiful green, orange, and yellow leaves! I would like to see those leaves used for branding.

Obviously the poetic falling autumn leaves are designed to match the original meaning of Haiku.

As a side note, Karl’s cute, brilliant and whimiscal “Be man in disguise” for Senryu is praiseworthy.

The crane idea originally came to me because it is kinda weird to think of a whole word “HIAKU” with some leaves on it. Right???
And Karl’s “Be Man in Disguise” is funny, but it would be hard to take haiku seriously with that logo…

I’m pretty happy with the current Haiku branding, in other words the current logo and the leaves. But I too have had thoughts of origami shapes, at least for icons. Obviously the crane is pretty much the most well known origami shape, but there are many, many others of course.

I was just brainstorming with my girlfriend trying to think of what applications might be called Origami which could use such an icon. Nothing really jumped out, but we had thoughts of drawing programs, or maybe 3D drawing programs, or maybe a photo app like iPhoto.

But in general trying to come up with an application based on a name and icon is probably going backwards

But someday I want to find an excuse to create a nice Haiku icon of an origami crane (and maybe some other classics like the frog.)

I think the current logo is wonderful: great typeface, simple, pleasant. Why change something that is well designed? (don’t fix what ain’t broke theory…

The current logo, “name with leaves on it” works fine for me
I think way too much thought is being wasted on idea’s to change things that don’t need changed

I cant see what a paper duck would have to do with anything
Then again, I’m not really sure what a penguin has to do with Linux

Apple, is an apple, and windows, are windows, that all makes sense
Does any one remember, when Microsoft’s icon was a hamburger ? look it up
I think it was called a blimpy burger

Some time ago, I remember a great BeOS mascot, icon, it was a Large very muscular bee, with a pointy stinger sticking out his bottom. I think I still have it somewhere

That was a great icon / mascot, but Haiku is not Be
And judging the way everyone wants to change Haiku
I’m guessing it will be more and more Linux, until it becomes Linux
So how about a half a penguin ?
Or a penguin head with a bee body ?
Or how about just leaving it alone, the name with leaves over it ?
Looks good to me

Let me guess where exactly that bee is at your end at the moment. :stuck_out_tongue:

Hi, I’m not sure what that means ?
If your asking where the picture is ? I found my old website from 2001 here

The Be picture is right there on the page

Hi, I’m not sure what that means ?[/quote]

I probably really should let it rest, so only if you really feel like explaining it more…
I meant, where did you read that the Haiku project and all its influential developers are working on changing Haiku into Linux? In a thread about the depiction of a paper bird, this conclusion just came a bit unexpected…

The “bee at your end” was my feebly try at some play of words on my part… Quite unsuccessful, however, so better ignore.

I like the look it is.
I love the tranquil autum leaves saying just relax… enjoy… No need to change something now for me…
If you like or someone else have some great ideas feel free to create a new one and show us all…

I suggest a Pinguin in Origami then…

No, as far as I’m concerned, the current simple and clean logo is really good enough.

I suggest anyway a few good-looking wallpapers (in autumnish tones) for the next release.

I’m surprised the “golden leaf” (the small haiku-os.org icon, also the BFS drive overlay icon) isn’t used more. For example, Haiku has at least two golden leaf icons (“App_About” and “App_About_2” I think) that are gorgeous, but I don’t even know what they are used for.

I like the haiku logo. The H and A look a little adam an eve but it is nice, clean and simple

the PROBLEM is - current logo is AMBIGUOUS.
feather or leaf?
if it’s feather, then why green and orange and why no rachis and cut-off calamus?
if it’s leaf, then why the edges are torn like it’s a feather.

how about we choose one and correct the logo?

i vote for a LEAF. we should lose the ambiguous elements (remove the cuts from sides) and maybe choose a specific leaves (that exist in nature, but similar to current logo).

Actually I like that. I sometimes think of them as leaf/feather hybrids. And the descriptions “light as a feather” and “light as a leaf” both work for Haiku, hehe.
