Hi guys!! i would really love to contribute to the Haiku community . but the problem is i have never contributed anything to any open source organizations
MY BACKGROUND: i have a good understanding(what i really mean by that is i can quite say what’s exactly happening in memory of my code) on c and c++(learnt from cs50 of harvard’s and learncpp.com) currently leaning oops on c++
The problem is i just don’t know where and how to start with things it would really help me if you give me any kind of direction .
i have already tried asking this question in the matrix chat but got ignored.
Welcome to the Haiku community! I did see your message on the IRC channel, but you had left by the time I saw it. It’s not a case of your message being ignored, it’s probably more of a case that it simply wasn’t seen by others at the time as people come and go.
This page on the Haiku website is the best place to start if you want to contribute. It covers various ways such as how to contribute in development:
Your question isn’t very specific,so it’s difficult to give a good answer.
The Haiku website has a section about development that explains many things you need to know:
The Getting Started page will probably be most useful to you,as it also contains links to documentation of the tools used for Haiku development (Git,Gerrit,…),the coding style and where to find tasks to work on:
If those pages don’t answer your questions, feel free to ask follow up questions and I’ll try my best to answer.
It’s good that you already know C++,that’s likely the most complicated thing when it comes to contributing.
Everything else you can easily get used to.
Good luck with your contributions!
We don’t actually have a matrix room; we have an irc room. From the irc side we can’t see or tell if the matrix bridge works or not. Joining from IRC directly will give you more reliable results
@Sathwik-88 remember that not every one is at the keyboard the whole day, and given we live in different timezones it might take some to for someone to reply. With that, happy coding and thanks for stepping in.
Looking at the IRC logs it looks like there was a netsplit at the time, why it looked like you left. It’s all good, can see you had rejoined the channel. So it’s nothing you did on your end.
No harm done, it’s just we see some people step in and without getting a chance to reply they step out already. Glad you didn’t and @colmiga pointed you to the forum.
