Netstack development and bounties

Hi Haikusas!

I was wondering… The netstack is getting increasingly more attention lately with some heavy hitters like Axel, Oliver, Philippe (who I always read as Houdini  ) and quite a few more focusing on it. Additionally Andrew Galante is paid to work full-time on networking. At the same time there’s an unclaimed codebounty at haikubounties.org of $700. Why hasn’t Haiku Inc. claimed that money yet?

It could be used as part of Andrew Galante’s compensation or to award crucial contributions of others.

Or, while speaking of Andrew Galante: It looked like he had some problems setting up a working/compatible system at the start. Maybe the codebounty (or the money saved with the bounty) should be used to buy a used compatible notebook that could be sent as an already set-up development system to fulltime developers. That’d get them up to speed faster or enable a dev with incompatible HW to start at all.

Money can’t be claimed until the bounty is fulfilled. As for as why they haven’t applied for the bounty, who knows? But come January, if the bounty remains open, the money will be donated to Haiku Inc. anyway, regardless of the progress on the netstack.
