If I go back to a beta 4 install…and the touch pad still works, are there files I can copy or is there a way to transfer the working factor to beta 5 ?
Instead of copying random files from a old version, the better solution is to understand what has gone wrong and properly fix it in Beta5.
It would be helpful to share the output of listdev
so we can see the exact hardware you have and maybe find breaking changes in the drivers for that hardware.
Better open a ticket on the bug tracker. In addition of a copy of listdev result, join syslog files when it works and when not.
ta guys…
heres the result of listdev:
…and wot I plan to do is see if the touch pad still works under B4… I think it was until I did an update…so the more ifo I can provide for a ticket the better.

The touchpad doesn’t appear in the listdev output, unfortunately,so that doesn’t help.
If you get it to work on Beta4,please show the listdev from there again,it may be listed then,at least if it’s internally connected over USB.
I’m not sure if PS/2 devices also appear in listdev.
You can also have a look at Input preferences, there you should see all input devices,USB and PS/2 (but not the exact model number,so that’s not as helpful,it’s only to see if the device is detected at all)
rightoh nip - Ive just found and down loaded an early version of beta 4 on the internet archive…
so the next step is to make and boot up from that.
but right now I need to get out in the garden and do some pruning…before the rain gets here…so will be on to doing that later in the day.
Hopefully I can post a more useful update then.
Found out wot the problem was …so now have a touchpad that works.
the ol’ operator error ie my stupidity was the cause…yet once again.
Theres an F7 function key with a tiny of an icon that looks like a tiny finger pointing to a tiny pad.
not sure if it makes a difference re ‘listdev’ but heres the result:
