I was trying it but for some reason it would exit out on me every time I try to log into my server no error message nothing it just exits out
Like, closing completely? That sounds like a bug then… would be happy to debug as time permits
If you’re looking for a native Hotline client, there’s SilverWing:
I tried to get it to work some weeks ago,but it seems like there are some source files missing/only available as pre-compiled 32bit binary in the repo.
Is there a way to get 32 bit compatibility enabled on haiku or The only way to do that is to install the legacy disc images
Only the 32bit version of Haiku supports 32bit binaries,the 64bit version doesn’t.
There were plans to add a compatibility layer, but it’s complicated and I haven’t seen any progress on it for months.
Bummer That’s okay tho BeShare still works fine and that does something similar I could also still login to my favorite bulletin board server alcoholaday and get my fix for that sort of thing that way
But you can run 32-bit Haiku in a QEMU virtual machine. It’s a bit tricky to set up and it’s dog-slow, but it does work. I made a proof-of-concept video showing 32-bit Gobe Productive running in a VM on a 64-bit setup. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=q9aVtkt_XBs
Given that it’s really slow and Haiku doesn’t yet support hardware-accelerated virtualisation,it’s probably better to put 32bit Haiku on another partition and set up dual boot.
Iirc a version was actually working. But due to a lack of consensus on how the implementation should work it ended up never being merged and presumably has now bit rotted to some degree
Yes,there was some code written some time ago.
I don’t know how complete it was and how good it worked, but it’s really a shame that it was never completed.
I could try rebasing it on the current source and fixing the conflicts, given how stable the Haiku API and ABI are, that shouldn’t be too much work, but it’s a waste of time if it still won’t get merged then due to some people disagreeing.
It looks like it was WIP. The PR and discussion are here https://review.haiku-os.org/c/haiku/+/427
It was closed and replaced with this one https://review.haiku-os.org/c/haiku/+/2874 but no progress for years.
Making it compile and work again should be trivial, but changing it so that all reviewers are happy might be way above my skills.
The mailing list thread says it was working for some programs but some exception handling was causing crashes (at least that was suspected cause of openjdk not running) and bootstrap of libstdc++ was broken. So it didn’t quite get there.
So after installing a few dependencies I was able to get luanti to work, it runs smoothly as long as you keep the viewing range down to 30 or 20 well in my case at lest it may vary for you also just a heads up when compiling the game you have to disable OpenAL I tried installing the development packages for that and everything it just wasn’t finding it
Me jumping onto my favorite BBS server Using the Haiku port of SyncTerm
Alcoholiaday BBS The SSL certificate is expired but not Don’t worry it’s safe
I had to install trash-cli using npm, but it works on Haiku i can confirm that does move files to the trash can and everything
It appears as though you’re running the built-in trash command that comes with Haiku.
I did not know that lol well that’s what I get for not reading things
