List of Haiku .hpkg repositories:

Reading about awesome Firefox port I thought about an Idea to collect as many repositories outside of official Haiku web or out of my knowleadge. Would you guys share any package repositories you know in this thread so there can be some overview.

There are several listed in the online documentation.

Note that LOTE stands for Living On The Edge. It’s a very nice repo if you know what you’re doing but, not recommended for lambda user. If most packages are stable, other can be more experimental. Also AFAIK, there’s no bug tracker there. Perhaps is it why it isn’t listed in the documentation.

What is a lambda user?

Literally, a user with random knowledge. You may say beginner or average user instead depending of difficulty.

I’m not sure “lambda” is used this way outside of French language?

I have only ever heard it used to refer to the air-fuel mixture in a car, and the sensors used for that, in English.

Lambda, as we know, is a letter from Greek alphabet. For me personally, “lambda” is connected to lambda-calculus, which is the basis of Lisp like languages. So, in my ears “lambda-user” sounds something like “hacker”.

The origins of the expression in France seems to be around 1936 at the École Polytechnique. Possibly because it is the letter in the middle of the greek alphabet, it is used to name tomething (or someone) that is average and unremarkable. It’s not very clear, and most likely it wasn’t “designed”, maybe some teacher used it in some example, the idea stuck, students had a bit of fun with it, and then it remained as a feature of the local dialect!

Then in the 1980s it escaped the school and entered the common language.
