How about include keyboard layout switching software (Few kyboard layouts at same time?) into Haiku installer CD? Localization is an important thing for desktop operating system and must be available out-of-box. And localization topic is missed in the User Guide (https://www.haiku-os.org/docs/userguide/en/contents.html)
Haiku is multilingual. what does a keyboard switcher have to do with language?
pkgman install keymapswitcher
https://depot.haiku-os.org/#!/pkg/keymapswitcher/haikuports/1/2/7.11/-/4/x86_gcc2?bcguid=bc250-XODK
The current images are nightly builds, they are about 200MB size and come with a minimal set of things included.
When we get to making a beta release, we will create a full CD image (650-700MB) so we can include a lot of extras. KeymapSwitcher will definitely be part of it.
Without a keyboard switcher Haiku is multilingual “read-only”. When I’d like to write a text in cyrillic, I need a keyboard switcher. As sample, I write a program source code in latin with remarks in russian.
Understood. Thank you.
Thank you.
Unfortunately, the User Guide doesn’t contain description of this simple straight way to keyboard switcher install.
As the keymap switcher is an application like any other available in HaikuDepot, there isn’t a description on how to install it in the user guide.
Now, the usage of the keymapswitcher should be added to the “Bundled applications”. This would best be done by someone actually using it, which I am not. Another great opportunity to become involved…
