Is it possible to import/edit keymap?

Hello everyone,

I have a tiny question about my Haiku keymap. I use a US-international keyboard, which works fine, but there are a few characters I’m missing from when I was on Linux. For instance, in French, we have œ, which was linked to AltGr+k, and I also use extensively the middle dot · (which was AltGr+x). I would love to have them back. Is there a way to create, edit and/or import keymaps to use in Haiku ? I did not find the option in the Keyboard Disposition menu but I may be missing something…

Thanks in advance for your replies!

Hi,
Yes you can edit the keymap. Hold the modifier key you want and then drag&drop the character onto the keymap in the right place.

There is also the alternative of hand editing the files, but that is a bit more fidly

EDIT: seems to only work if you start holding the modifier with the keymap app focused, this is a bit annoying. we should fix that…

Thanks for your reply !

I was trying to copy-paste stuff but to no avail… Drag&dropping works indeed !

EDIT: Strangely enough, it worked flawlessly for œ and ·, but not for Œ (so AltGr+Shift+k). Skill issue on my end ?

EDIT2: Okay, strange bug: For AltGr+Shift characters I have to drag&drop the wanted character BEFORE tapping the dead keys in order to change the key. If I do it the other way around, it just doesn’t work for whatever reason. No problem when I only have one dead key. Where can I file the issue ? https://review.haiku-os.org/ doesn’t seem like the place @nephele

The bug tracker is at https://dev.haiku-os.org

One can alternatively edit the keymaps with a text editor:

First “dump” the currently active keymap into text format:

keymap -d > my_keymap

Then edit with your preferred editor, and finally load it back:

keymap -s my_keymap

Then from the Keymap preference app you could “Save as…”.

Just a heads up: AltGr sadly is not a separate key from “right Option” on Haiku ATM, sadly.
