I installed Haiku Beta 5 on my notebook. I noticed that the notebook fans are running very loudly; the noise is quite disturbing. Could Haiku be failing to recognize the GPU and putting all the load on the CPU? Or is this always how fan management works in Haiku? Thank you.
Not normal for me…..I’ve run it on laptop & thin clients.
It’s probably a little bit of both, even if your GPU has drivers on Haiku those are still pretty limited so the load for graphically intensive stuff goes to the CPU.
The fan being at max speed constantly might mean that your laptop’s power management stuff (ACPI?) isn’t handled properly yet.
You could try the latest nightly release, Beta 5 is pretty old now, maybe the fan situation has been solved in the meantime. (The CPU will likely still act like you’re seeing in Beta 5)
