Hello All,
I’m having trouble with my Dell Dimension 1100. I can’t seem to get the Intel Pro 100 NIC working. The output from listdev:
device Network controller (Ethernet controller) [2|0|0]
vendor 8086: intel Corporation
device 1050: 82562EZ 10/100 Ethernet Controller
I’m pretty sure that means the device is there. The driver seems to load as well when I check the syslog. When I try using DHCP I just get a self-assigned 169.x.x.x address. When I set it to static using either ifconfig or the network preferences utility, the result seems to be the same. The IP will come back fine and route list looks right as well; but when I try to ping my GW I get “No route to host.” I can successfully ping 127.0.0.1 and also I can ping the IP address if I assign one (i.e. 192.168.1.11). I just can’t ping anything past the NIC.
One thing I’ve noticed that I think is odd is that the link light greens up immediately and stays that way even if I unplug the ethernet cable. For comparison, when this system had Windows loaded it had no trouble using the NIC so I feel like the hardware is good.
Any suggestions? I’ve read through the forums and what little similar posts I found did not resolve my issue.
Thanks!
