Installing on Lenovo R500 does not work [Fixed with fail-safe graphics]

download: haiku-r1beta4-x86_64-anyboot.iso
Use rufus for creating USB-stick
Use Etcher for creating USB-stick

Boot R500:
It boots from the stick. Shows Haiku logo and 7 icons below. They get highlighted one after the other.
After the “red rockets” it stays for some seconds.
Then the monitor gets white (some rows and cols show color patterns)
Then the monitor slowly get dark and darker … until black.
Activity on USB stick stops.

I have used the ISO to install it in VirtualBox. Works fine.

hwinfo (linux) shows:
CPU: T6570
RAM: 8GB
Graphic: ATI RV620/M82 (Mobility Radeon HD 3450/3470)
System Type: Thinkpad T400 (although it is an R500)
Intel Wifi Link 5100 AGN

Purpose of my doing was to check if I can run it as trial version to see if my HW is supported and then do a complete install. I have this notebook only for trying out things (Linux, Win11 etc…)
It does not matter if I use rufus or etcher for creating the USB stick.

Can anyone tell me what I am doing wrong or if part of my hardware is not compatible?

Welcome mk53!

You can try different boot options, esp. “Use fail-safe graphics driver”.
See the User Guide on Boot Loader.

Thanks a lot.
Turn ON: “Use fail-safe graphics driver ” is the only option I needed.
Works now.
All other options had no effect.

Excerpt from the User Guide:

If activating Use fail-safe graphics driver solves your troubles by falling back to VESA graphics, you can make the setting permanent by removing the # of the line #fail_safe_video_mode true in the text file /boot/home/config/settings/kernel/drivers/kernel.

If you know what driver is used, you could disable it with the guide here: Disabling components of packages | Haiku Project (no need to enter bootmanager anymore if done right).

Please post a syslog in a ticket at the bug tracker. So that this device can be disabled in the radeon_hd driver.
