Mercedes, in their wisdom, secured the roof bars by drilling holes through the roof, instead of welding nuts onto the roof as more intelligent car-makers do. To fix the problem on my car would have necessitated removing all the soft panels inside.

It also had terrible turbo-lag, and was slower at high speeds than my Peugeot 406, which had a smaller engine and was probably heavier.

The plastics faded in the sun. Britain is not afflicted by an over-abundance of sunshine, so this was not impressive.

It was comfortable, but that was all. I was glad to see the back of it.
