I got Vision/IRC set up on the laptop earlier this week, so I’m going to try there next.
I don’t remember what Haiku was like in 2024 but, but now we definitely have a notification server, and by default the notifications open right next to the deskbar. We also probably still have a first-boot script, so it wouldn’t be too hard to show a notification with an arrow pointing to the right and a hint to click there.
