If anyone has some GMail invites, and is feeling generous - I’d really like to try it out. I’ve been using a hotmail account now forever (7 years?) and i’m really sick of the junk mail and limits…
I missed the boat on the mailing list persons that were handing out invites - I read in digest form, so I think they were gone by the time I saw the messages.
Just PM me if you have an extra invite to spare - I’d be willing to give some back to the Haiku community myself once I get an account!
Sure! I was this person on the mailing list, and I will be sure to add you onto the list. We just have to wait until I get some more (or the people I invited).
Just out of reference, they are issuing invites again. I've got 7 in the past three days (unfortunately, all pre booked by others)
Ah! - thanks for pointing that out, I forget to check… Since I posted that message, I did in fact get an invite from a fellow coworker, so I now have a couple invites to give out to the community - PM me if you’d like one…
I would almost say walla does some even worse things to your email:
Quote:
In order to provide you with Walla!Mail's e-mail service, Walla! stores and maintains contents of your account on its protected servers. This information is processed for various purposes, including formatting and displaying the information, backing up your account, adding hyperlinks to selected words, and protecting it from unsolicited bulk e-mail (spam).
and
Quote:
In addition, our automatic link creator highlights predetermined keywords within an e-mail. These words are not personalized and you have the option, at your discretion, to follow these links to paid content.
so, some of the words in my emails will have hyperlinks to sponsors? - that’s seems a bit more invasive to me…
Not to mention, they actually send you promotions and ads as email (from what their privacy policy indicates) - which just adds to the spam in my opinion.
In any case, there are always costs, I’m just pointing out that walla has different ones.
If anyone still wants to try gmail, I have three invites left. Send me an email offlist at kenneth[dot]vendler[at]amarantus[dot]us . Obviously, if more than three people are interested, only the first three people (determined by time of receipt) who email me will get the coveted gmail invite.
Yep… Gmail invites are about as common now as electrons in a wall outlet… Just breath the beginning of the request for an invite and you will be burried so fast you’ll sufficate  They should just open it to the public.
If you guys are worried about privacy etc. has anyone looked at Hushmail? i think it’s www.hushmail.com
it’s supposedly PGP encrypted all the way thrpugh and the company says it doesn’t have access to your private key etc. you have to look at their statement yourselves, to see if you beleieve them or not, though.
they have free webmail, not sure what the storage limit is, but POP etc. costs.

PGP = Pretty Gross Paranoia, in my eyes. Its not like you can’t sign or encrypt the text of a message before you gmail it - I have to for one specific purpose that I can’t disclose (for much the same reason I have to use PGP, NDA’d…)
Also, gmail pop/smtp is SSL encrypted, and you can use the webmail through ssl.
I believe every time I use an invite, it goes back to 100 the next day… I think invites are essentially limitless now… especially since people can get their own account with a cell phone without an invite required.

Only in a few countries. Not here, for instance; despite Google hosting rather a lot of Gmail here…
