Does the pulse app work with the correct image and full processor ID?
nearly. i’m working on that
Do you have any old world support in the works?
Just about done with my x86 Adaptec SCSI drivers. Maybe we can get pre G3 PPC Macs working.
Following this great news, I started experimenting with a Pegasos II port. I’m targeting QEMU first and will focus on real hardware once it’s in a usable state.
Aha! That one picture looked familiar! Can’t wait to see the video about this!
oh I will be making one for sure haha
What did you have to do to get it going?
If you want to try this on real PowerPC Mac hardware, here ya go: PowerPC Distro of Haiku installed disk image
First person to get to the bootloader gets to discover the non-Haiku branding I’ve chosen ![]()
Note: if you decide to try this on real hardware, just flash the disk image to a CF card and use a CF to IDE adapter (or flash it to a real hard drive if you’re a maniac), and then boot holding CMD OPT O F to get to Open Firmware, then do:
boot hd:,\haikuloader.elf
Then wait. Possibly for some time. Admire the scrolling text.
If you then get to the bootloader, congrats! Hit enter to select a volume, select the only option, then select continue booting.
At some indeterminate time after that, you may reach a blue desktop!
I’ve ONLY tested this on my PowerMac G4 Digital Audio, and PowerBook G3 Pismo. Both have upgraded CPUs. At 550MHz G4, the desktop is shockingly useable. Pismo keyboard and trackpad should even work!. I’m going to work on the TiBook next.
If the boot stalls for too long, reboot and try again. I’m grinding away at stability and boot gremlins.
This build probably won’t work in DingusPPC or QEMU, only real hardware.
If you do get this running on your real hardware, please please post a picture!
I’m watching this with interest. It could be fun to have this running on my ancient Mainstreet.
I assume the plan is to maintain this as a one-way sync’d fork, periodically pulling in updates from Haiku and applying the “contaminated” commits with tweaks as necessary?
oh my goodness so close! i have one of these ibooks, i’ll test that next after my tibook
edit: actually getting this going on the tibook might get it going on these later ibooks too
tabby? very cute
