I got Lyx using X11 and Xform which I built for Beos built.
It works but and prints but there are 2 problems:
Problem with the port:
For some reason it does not do Preview.
I found out why it does not do Preview.
The program uses by default ghostscript.
I tried to set it to BeGV, but BeGV it seems does not take command line arguments. So it cannot be called from Lyx.
gs works but it is on of course only for a 10th of a second.
So I will have to port Ghostscript.
Problem with the Latex/Tetex (ie Beos tex distribution.):
What should I do with it. Upload it?
By the way. The error message in generating pdf is:
This is a problem, which you can find on the web… The was a solution for it, but since we do not have the source code for the tetex ported to beos, I cannot fix it.
As you can see in the followin mesages, this is not a problem. Just cannot use Z1 encoding.
So if I can make Ghostview work, Lyx will be perfectly usable.
This brings up another poin:
There should be a central source for rhe source code for BEOS. bezip.de and bebits.com only have binaries. Not much use to input change and keep up a living system.

To see the result, I have to export to pdf or ps and use BeGV.
(BePDF does not work on the generated PDF file???)
Problem with the Latex/Tetex (ie Beos tex distribution.):
I tried to generate some fancier tex files.
Latex works, but dvips chokes up (Fails.)
The same tex file on linux compiles fine.
So untill Tex is improved, Lyx is not that usable on BeOs, except for debugging Tetex

I got it working as far as tetex concerne.
Had to change fomtencoding in lyxrc.default from T1 to default. !!!
It works.
I hope the next step is a native port of LyX, so we all can use it.
Hmm, maybe the Haiku team could use it for writing documentations…Good luck with tetex and LyX!
Congratulations! We have http://www.beunited.org which hosts many source projects. You may also find http://www.beclan.org interesting.

I tried to get in touch with beunited. E-mails get rejected.
I just wrote an e-mail to bezip.de.
I did package the program. It seems it only run on bone.
I think the best thing you can do ist to try to get beos specific patches into the official repository if thats possible. This way people know that there’s a BeOS version around and any changes will automatically be incorporated.
Also if someone else wants to work more on it in the future that would be the place where I would start looking for sources at least.
It would be great to have a serious word/text processing programme available on the BeOS!
Can you tell me what progress you have made and when and where the programme might be available for beta-testing. Would you be prepared to email it to me?
