How does the Zeta operating system go in 2024?

I think Haiku should provide optional themes for BeOS classic and Dano, Zeta, and Gonx. I know the theme manager exists but is a little buggy for my tastes.

Yeah, I don’t like the lack of persistence of prefs in Tracker for the read-only directories.

I think I’ve read someone managed to run Zeta on an old MacBook with Core2Duo. Anyone?

BeOS classic is already available in the haiku-extras package, as well as a Flat theme with more modern look.

some Core2Duo kit can run BeOS R5 so this wouldn’t be that surprising, with Zeta’s better IDE/SATA support

Pretty much nothing newer than that can run either.

You can already have such themes though, however they’re not in the depot, you have to compile themself or install haiku-extras and @nephele did say that there was going to be an overhaul of how they work in future releases. I personally use the BeOS one in conjuction with flatlook control look.

I still use BeOS 5, Zeta and Haiku.

I bought a Dell Latitude C640 [P4 2Ghz, 512Mb RAM, ATI Radeon 7500, 3Com 900 (3C905C) ethernet, PCMCIA, etc.] for Windows 98SE and XP for testing stuff.

For grins, I installed Zeta 1.21 and upgraded to v1.51. This is a laptop with ZetaOS that just screams! It was amazing just to see everything works right after the installation. Still working out networking…and wifi…I have a new toy!!

Does anyone have the CDs & activation keys for any of the products: ‘MediaFire Pro’, ‘Airline Tycoon Deluxe’, ‘Robin Hood’, or ‘Amiga Classix Gold’ for ZetaOS? I am willing to pay for them plus international shipping.

Dell C840 have a Geforce4 chip.
I can probably share what I have later this month, but I’m keeping my discs (Airline Tycoon and Robin Hood).
Good luck with your search!

Cannot blame you there…I would do the same if I had my original copies that I bought in 2006/2007 (unfortunately these were lost in household transit coming home from overseas). If I get the ISOs and keys, that would be great.

I bought Airline Tycoon for Zeta. I do still have it, but its buried somewhere in an attic due to house renovations.

I’ll image it and shove it on archive.org (it’s not available for sale anywhere for over a decade so meets every definition of abandonware you can come up with) when I find it.

I only ever used Zeta for two things - to run it, and to test the VLC port on Zeta as I was providing the builds for it!

Yeah, I agree…I have looked for Zeta version of Robin Hood and the other Runesoft software noted above at major online retailers for years. No luck so far.
