When I run haikuporter with no arguments, it is trying to update dependency info and crashes the system. Has anyone run into this issue? I re-cloned haikuports and haikuporter and the issue is still there.
Are you using a AMD CPU older than Ryzen?
In that case,they can crash randomly,and many things have been tried to solve the problem but without success so far.
I experienced the issue with Haikuporter the first time I think,but it can also happen during compiling stuff (also outside of Haikuports) or other situations where the system is under heavy load.

It’s a bit confusing,first people thought only the Bulldozer generation is affected,but I have exactly this issue with an AMD Athlon II and it seems I’m not the only one.

The issue is completely limited to AMD CPUs,the actual reason for those crashes is still unknown I think.
I, OTOH, used 3 different Athlon II X2 models (245/250/260), and one Phenom II X4 on 2 different motherboards (one A760G based, the other an nForce 630a one, both AM2+ socket, and using only DDR2-800), for long periods, while doing HaikuPorts related stuff, without ever hitting those random freezes or reboots.
Wonder if the issue has more to do with certain combinations of chipsets/sockets and CPU models than with just the CPUs themselves.
My main system is Phenom II X6 1100T. Asus ROG Crosshair V motherboard. 16GB of DDR3. Random lockups is a good description. Sometimes I reboot and I can complete whatever I was trying to do without issue.
That’s the first time I hear someone is completely unaffected by this bug,good to know that that’s also possible.
Did you use the 32bit or 64bit version on those machines,or tried both?
I think it only happens on 64bit Haiku.
I tried two different machines here,both with the same issue.
- HP Compaq CQ5212DE with AMD Athlon II x3 @ 2.71GHz, 8GB DDR3 memory, Nvidia Geforce 6100 nForce graphics and whatever mainboard HP has built into it.
- Custom-built computer with AMD A4-5300 dual-core APU @ 3.39 GHz, 8GB DDR3 memory and MSI A68HM-P33 V2 mainboard.
Both. Spent most of my time with the 64 bits one, though. Had been using both versions since beta3, till whatever nightly hrev was current when I switched to my “new” CPU earlier this year.
Had ran builds that made those poor CPUs cry for mercy, without much issues (other than the occasional KDLs, that always ended up being some proper bug in Haiku).
