I remember visiting a linux site that had a world map and allowed users to “stick” a pushpin into there location on the map. Doing a mouse-over the pushpins allowed users to view limited details about other users. The reason I mention this is I thought this might allow haiku testers/users to locate other users in there area. Would it be possible (or a good idea) to put something like that here, on this site?
I’d love to see something like that. Are there any online services we could use? For example and embedded google map - although I realize this would be a bit extreme, but just to get the ball rolling.
I dunno… This could result in Haiku User Groups & people might start doing cool stuff with their computers and things could get way outta hand!
Sounds good to me.
Hello,
its possible with google maps. Like we did in our gaming clan.
Map!
It is possible to set your location in your User Profile on this site, but I don’t know if that is exposed anywhere to find other nearby users. This is something that maybe could be worked on in the future.
I would like to see a new section for this website in which users can report their location and it is displayed on Google maps. This could really help the formation of HUGs or at least a stronger community as a whole. I know there is some Haiku guys in Australia but I bet there is many that don’t know any Australian Haiku users.
There is an Australian Haiku website - http://haikudownunder.com/
This is still being worked on, and thus not exposed to regular registered users yet. Can’t tell exactly when, but this feature is definitely coming.
Hi folks, AFAIK that’s what Frappr is made for, even tough Google Maps would do equally. I guess both could be easily integrated into haiku-os.org.
