As you maybe have noticed, Apple announced the switch from IBM POWER to Intel x86/x86-64. So the PPC platform is probably going to disappear from the consumer market. But IBM will stay with the PPC platform on the next generation consoles (PlayStation3, XBox360, Nintendo Revolution). Are there any plans for supporting these platform with the Haiku? Does that make any sense? Or will PPC support disappear from Haiku too?
It’s not about installing an OS on a console (If I wanted that I know that I could install Linux). So the main question would be: Could the next generation consoles be a good platform for the Haiku or any other (multimedia) OS?

The answer could probably be yes… next generation console could be good (not the best, because they’ll be more specialized than the actual ones) platform to run an OS… and I think BeOS could aim to be the best OS for nextG consoles because of its native multiprocessor/multithread (which will be the best qualities of these consoles) abilities …
Anyway… my answer is… we will see. Because BeOS has a lot of great potentials and its destiny will be decided mainly from the attention and the menpower we will be able to actract on it!
…at least, this is my opinion…

Porting Haiku to it would require two things: 1) the availability of specifications (since they have to publish the source for the basic Linux system, this could be possible, but getting the Nvidia graphics chip to run…) and 2) definitely more developers on the Haiku project’s side, because making a complete OS for the PC is a herculean enough task such as it is.
But, reading the article you linked to, I think, the PS3 sounds like an interesting product. So you can connect a HDD, a keyboard and a mouse, but what about a display?
What got me thinking is, that according to this page the PS3 will have a HDMI interfaces which can be converted to DVI by means of suitable adapters (according to wikipedia). So, is there a chance that you could hook that up to your TFT screen and really have a cheap and powerful computer? Another question would then be, of course, whether the PS3 will support more PC friendly resolutions like 1280x1024, instead of 1280x720 etc…

Some informations have already been delivered to the LinuxKernel Developers and the patches are under testing with the Linux kernel 2.6.12 rc4 (view http://lkml.org/lkml/2005/5/13/217) …Arnd Bergmann of IBM is expected to describe and premier the Linux based Cell architecture at Linuxtag 2005 (22-25 Jun) Hope this could help!

“It’s got such an all-around purpose, and it’s open. It will become completely open if we equip it with Linux, and programmers will be able to do anything with it. It’s the same thing with the graphics, since it’s got the shaders.”
