Haiku ❤ Nvidia (porting Nvidia driver for Turing+ GPUs)

The driver only works on nightly releases of Haiku currently. Hopefully that will be resolved soon with an updated version of the driver that will work on beta6 as well.

Thanks for this comment. I hadn’t kept up on this so didn’t read through enough to know I needed nightly. I was wondering why it wasn’t working.

Tested on a 4070. HDMI only, DP is black screen on boot. Took Doom 3 from a frame every 20 seconds on lowest settings to perfectly smooth on ultra settings. Anything that uses acceleration seems to crash on close, which seems to be known already as with the teapot.

Amazing work.

That’s good to know Ada Lovelace based cards work as that was a bit of a question mark given X512 only tested with up to Ampere, thanks for the confirmation. Seems the GSP firmware file for Ampere is also the same one for Ada Lovelace looking at documentation which I wasn’t aware was the case.

Quick question, with Pascal (nvidia 1050), is my only option to use VESA?

Yes, unfortunately, at the moment they are only supported with Turing+ and Ampere technology.

You know, back when x512 released the Nebula drivers, I wanted to try Haiku with acceleration so badly that I bought a nice T400; I made that choice because I had a very slim case, and this low-power, compact card fit perfectly.

There is a driver patch for mDP and DP support.

Other Nvidia cards are being supported by other developers for accelerated graphics.

The main non-official supported cards for 3D hardware acceleration are GeForce 900 series and higher (i.e. Blackwell). Check forum for various related driver developments.

So there is a community driver potentially for Pascal? Not that I mind vesa, just wanted to be aware.

Nebula and RadeonGfx proves that it can get done.

10-4. I thought you meant there was already a community one for Pascal.

Might be worth noting for folks who download @X512 drivers that he hasn’t added, for some reason or another, B_Parallel_Access flags to the accelerate.

Why this matters… Haiku searches for that flag and if it’s not set, won’t load BDirectWindow for games and screen recording apps that call it. Without BDirectWindow your cpu and app_server are doing all the heavy lifting.

I’ve forked his repo and with a little help from Claude compiled the acclerant with the flags. I’ve sent him a merge request for this update, but in the meantime if you’ve got to have that flag support you can download my repo’s version of it here and just add it to /boot/home/config/non-packaged/add-ons/accelerates/ folder then reboot.

Which apps will benefit? Blender would be great!

Which games do you test with the Turing driver?
Will Arx Fatalis (https://arx-libertatis.org/) with the Launcher work?

  • Arx Libertatis v1.2.0 ← Use this one for your testing.

Most game setups rely on good use of desktop OpenGL or Vulkan.

FlightGear, SuperTuxKart, and Blender are good tests…

Hi, so mDP works in daily now?

Daily??

mDP works by a patch provided by another user/dev. Wasn’t added to driver build yet.

Will this patch work without the turing driver?
I use a Display Port Monitor myself, and no Turing-GPU

The basic 2D driver doesn’t/didn’t support mDP/DP… or anything advanced with it. Some users mentioned getting a display - but no guarantees.
