Haiku n00b: (um) bonus question about WINE emulator

Hello guys, third post as I slouch from Debian to Haiku. The other two are legitimate “daily driver” questions. This one is a special bonus and pretty obscure, tho someone may be able to answer it from first principles rather than hands-on.

I’m setting up a “media PC” for OBS Studio and OBSBOT Center, the Obsbot in-house software that enables control of the AI-powered autotracking features in certain Obsbot webcams. This dedicated machine will be a Windows laptop with an Nvidia graphics card.

If my Haiku-powered netbook could also control the Obsbot webcam, it would make a handy backup. However, Obsbot’s user base is overwhelmingly Windows-based and the company has not released a Linux version of OBSBOT Center. The installation would thus involve using WINE to run a Windows version of OBSBOT Center AND a Windows or Linux version of OBS Studio.

Feedback from WINE/OBS installs on Linux has been that the emulator software doesn’t enable the applications to communicate with the webcam because it doesn’t support communication via the ports. Would this also be the case on Haiku? Be the first kid on your block etc etc… Best, NP.

Haiku version of Wine is quite limited. Understand, it’s more a proof of concept than a full port. Therefore, I doubt that you will get better results.

Wine on Haiku is beyond terrible. You’d be better off installing windows under qemu

Thanks, guys. Guess that’s a “no OBSBOT”, then. Interesting announcement about 90s-appropriate Haiku software port project comin up on another thread. Best, NP.

Hmmm… which version of Windows would that be??

The oldest version that your must-have apps can run under. WIN7 is a good place to start.

It will be slow, though.
