Haiku Installer will not boot on Dell Inspiron 510m

I have a Dell Inspiron 510m. It has 512mb of ram and a Pentium M processor. I tried to boot the installer for Haiku r1/beta6 and it leads straight to a black screen. I read about the Issues with the intel_extreme driver and tried to boot it with all of the safe mode settings, but i still encountered the very same black screen. Haiku r1/beta4 works fine, so that is the one that I am using right now. Could anybody help me out with this? Thanks

please try just fail-safe graphic only mode (or add safe mode if necessary) and continue booting.

I already have unfortunately :frowning:

That sounds challenging

I have a HP EliteDesk 800 G1 SFF box with a GT1030 2GB gfx card that I have been struggling with. It booted to bootloader but never reached GUI state when trying to install it. After reading some more of the troubleshooting tips, I got it working.

This is what I did:

Tried safe mode - still no gui (took a while to figure out hot to get into the bootloader options, was pressing SHIFT but as the box has UEFI had to press SPACE repeatedly to get into the options.

Then I tried with Use fail-safe graphics driver, this solved the problem for me and I booted into the GUI. From there I could setup partitions per instructions and install.

However, after rebooting - still did not get to the GUI.

I removed the GFX card above and used the onboard GFX instead - now it boots sucessfully and is really fast. I know the GFX card works as I was using it with Bazzite before.

Sounds like you have tried all the options, at least this is what I did to get it working for me. A black screen to me indicates there is something with the GFX.

interestingly, mine works just fine with an external monitor on beta 6

Great that you got it working!

Still on r1/b4 though because I still wanna use it as a laptop  but ill keep testing nightly versions to see if they fix this bug
