Haiku development in 2024?

Talking of ARM port, I was wondering if there is mileage in targeting the MNT Reform laptop. Apparently it runs Genode and Plan 9 / 9Front already as well as Open BSD (see “system images” on their documentation page).

If we are doing a new release of Haiku in 2024 (it seems too late to do one in 2023 :frowning: ), we should update a few system dependencies:

  • OpenSSL3
  • FFMPEG 6
  • ICU
  • Gutenprint

There are already ports of these available in haikuports but Haiku is not using them yet. So that’s somewhere in my TODO list as well.

Another goal for me is trying to reduce a little the backlog of patches waiting in Gerrit and not yet merged. Most of them need quite a bit of rework, and few people seem to care about it. Often I lacked time to do the needed adjustments when the patch was first submitted. I will continue looking into these.

perhaps also libresolv?

yes (it’s libsolv, but it’s also on that list)

Possibly add libedit to that list, if this PR gets merged.
